Bird hunting ban can be lifted by the State Commission for Avian Flu Prevention

The ban on bird hunting imposed for prevention of bird flu spread can be lifted only by the State Commission for Avian Flu Prevention, established by the presidential order on February 16, 2006, press service of the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources told APA.

The ministry officials denied reports that they were addressed to lift the bird hunting ban because of stable epizootic situation in the country and added that according to article 16.1 of the hunting law, the starting of hunting season is determined by the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources. The bird hunting is banned from February to the end of August, despite even the stable epizootic situation, because this is egg-laying period of the birds.

The State Veterinary Service of the Ministry of Agriculture addressed the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources to lift ban on bird hunting until November considering the stable epizootic situation in the country over the past three years, ending of winter season of the migrant birds, no identification of bird flu in the countries located on migration line, as well as the number of addresses by the hunters.

The ban on hunting of local and migrant birds imposed since 2006 for prevention of bird flu transmission and spread in the country according to the joint plan of actions by the Ministries of Agriculture, Health, Ecology and Natural Resources in 2006-2006, is continued until the present day.
