Russia’s second mobile giant VimpelCom announced the launch of a new mobile phone operator in Georgia under the Beeline brand on March 15. Tbilisi Mayor Georg Ugulava was the first subscriber of the new operator.
He said a Russian company’s penetrating Georgian cell-phone market is an example of high-level bilateral cooperation.
Beeline was established after a deal between VimpelCom and Mobitel. VimpelCom paid US$126 million for a 51% stake in Mobitel in June 12.
VimpelCom provides mobile phone services in Georgia, Russia, Ukraine, Tajikistan, Kazakhstan and Armenia with 55mln customers. Vimpel-Communications was established in June 15, 1992 and has a VIP index on the New York Stock Exchange. /APA-Economics/
