Mexico and Pakistan were the most dangerous countries to work in however. The PEC said 12 journalists died in Mexico, likely victims of the ongoing conflict between the military and drug cartels in the north of the country. Pakistan came second with 11 journalists killed, the majority of whom died on the border with Afghanistan, followed by Iraq, Libya and the Philippines. More than 100 others were attacked, intimidated, arrested and wounded in countries including Egypt, Libya, Syria, Tunisia and Yemen,.
According to the report, in CIS countries, three journalists were killed in Russia, one in Ukraine and Azerbaijan.
The journalist killed in Azerbaijan was Rafig Tagi.
Doctor of the First Medical Aid Station No 8, writer and publicist Tagiyev Rafig Nazir (Rafig Tagi) was stabbed while returning from the office at about 22.00 on November 19, 2011 near the building he lived. He was undergoing treatment in the Clinical Medical Center and died on November 23. Earlier the criminal investigation was launched into the fact in accordance with the article 126.1 (deliberate harming the health), but after his death the investigation is being conducted in accordance with the article 120.1 (deliberate murder).
On November 26, the operational group submitted their report to the prosecutor general and interior minister. Investigative actions and operational searches were determined and concrete recommendations and instructions were given. This incident caused public resonance. The investigation is under the President’s control.
