Committee to Protect Journalists names the Philippines most dangerous country for journalists

Baku. Ismayil Heydarov – APA. The international Committee to Protect Journalists declared 2009 as “darkest year” for journalist.

121 journalists were killed in 25 countries last year, which exceeded 2008 results by 33 percent, APA reports quoting the world news agencies.

The Committee reported more than 150 journalists were arrested in the different places of the world and condemned arrest of journalists during the last developments in Iran.

The Philippines has been named the world’s most dangerous country for journalists this year by an official for the advocacy group, Committee to Protect Journalists. The most horrible massacre of journalists took place in that country in 2009. 31 journalists, who visited the Philippines to watch the elections, were killed on November 23.

In 2009, 38 journalists were killed in the Philippines, 13 – in Mexico, 9 – in Somalia, 8 – in Pakistan and 7 – in Russia.
