The Middle Corridor is becoming a key trade route between Asia and Europe, said Djoomart Otorbaev, former Prime Minister of Kyrgyzstan, during his speech at the panel discussion titled “The Middle Corridor and the Eurasian Connectivity Gateway” held within the framework of the 13th Baku Global Forum, APA reports.

He noted that the importance of the Middle Corridor in terms of global trade and logistics is rapidly increasing.

“The main driving force of the Middle Corridor is China–Europe trade, and the volume of this trade is very large. Since rail transport is faster and more efficient, the role of this route is increasing,” he said.

According to Otorbayev, the Middle Corridor is an important logistics route connecting Japan, China, Southeast Asia, and India with European markets, and the importance of this route has increased further amid geopolitical changes.

“Azerbaijan plays a critical role in ensuring connectivity between Asia and Europe and has become one of the main transit hubs in the region,” he emphasized.

Otorbayev added that container transportation along the Middle Corridor has been growing rapidly in recent years. The main reason for this is the strengthening cooperation among countries along the route in developing infrastructure and harmonizing logistics regulations.
