This year, the Baku International Sea Port plans to handle 104-105 thousand TEU containers, Director of the Baku Port, Eldar Salahov, told journalists, APA-Economics reports.
According to him, today the annual container handling indicator at the International Sea Port has reached the level of 100,000 TEU (Twenty-foot Equivalent Unit) for the first time.
"I think that this year the indicated indicator will reach 104-105 thousand," - Eldar Salahov noted.
He added that in 2024, the Port transported more than 76 thousand TEU containers, and compared to this indicator, a 40% increase is expected in the indicator this year.
According to Eldar Salahov, amid the growing relevance and development of container transportation, plans are underway to increase the container handling capacity of the Port of Baku.
Under these plans, within the first phase of the port’s development, its annual container handling capacity is expected to be increased from the current 150,000 TEU to 260,000 TEU. To achieve this goal, the necessary work in this direction is planned to be carried out in the near future.
