At Baku International Sea Trade Port, the annual container handling volume has reached 100,00th TEU (Twenty-foot Equivalent Unit) for the first time, APA-Economics reports.

This information was shared during a media tour organised at the port.

It was noted that Baku Port holds a special strategic position on the trade and logistics map as one of the main hubs of the region and the Middle Corridor (Trans-Caspian International Transport Route). In a period when global supply chains are being reshaped, the Middle Corridor has become increasingly important as the safest, most convenient, flexible, and shortest transit route between Asia and Europe. Thanks to its infrastructure, technical capabilities, and experienced specialists, Baku Port makes a significant contribution to the development of regional logistics. As the first port in the region to receive the “Green Port” (“EcoPort”) certification, it organises operations in accordance with international environmental standards, ensuring the sustainability of shipments along the Middle Corridor.

The growth dynamics of container handling make this achievement even more significant. While 40,395 TEU containers were handled through Baku Port in 2020, 76,775 TEU containers were handled in 2024, representing a 90% or 1.9-fold increase.

“The fact that the annual 100,000 TEU threshold has been exceeded this year demonstrates the efficiency of the port’s container operations and provides a basis for higher forecasts for the next year,” the statement said.
