Azerbaijan’s share in cargo transported via Georgian railways announced

Last year, 13.3 million tons of cargo were transported via the railways of Georgia, the National Statistics Office of Georgia stated, APA’s local bureau reports.

Compared to the previous year, the volume of cargo decreased by 3%. Of the total cargo transported, 7.9% accounted for domestic transportation, 34.7% for international transportation, and 57.5% for transit shipments.

In the reporting year, 35.8% of railway cargo entering Georgia’s territory was sent from Russia, while 27.2% was sent from Azerbaijan. For 16.2% of the cargo, the final destination was Armenia, for 9.2% it was Kazakhstan, and for 8.4% it was Russia.

36.4% of cargo transportation consisted of coke and refined petroleum products, 20.9% of chemicals, chemical products, and man-made fibers, rubber and plastic products, while 12.8% consisted of metal ores and other mining and quarrying products.
