Baku. Nijat Mustafayev – APA-Economics. Israeli aircarrier Arkia has received permission to begin offering regular flight service from Israel to Azerbaijan’s capital city of Baku, Transportation Minister Yisrael Katz announced on Sunday.
Prior to this, Azerbaijan Airlines (AzAL) operated flights between Baku and Tel Aviv.
On July 31, media reports said Baku-Tel-Aviv flight would be discontinued from August 20 because Israel was concerned about the strictness of security in Azerbaijan Airlines (AzAL).
Then, the airlines said they had agreed to postpone the termination of flights until September
20.
The problem was that Israeli side wanted to provide security for this flight at Baku International Airport, a move which was rejected by Azerbaijani side.
AzAL and Israel Civil Aviation Authority held discussions in Baku on Sep. 8 to solve the problem.
