According to the United Nations Children's Fund's (UNICEF) 2025 report, children around the world are subjected to violence and crime every four minutes, Prosecutor General Kamran Aliyev said at the presentation ceremony of the research report titled “Legal Awareness of Adolescents in Azerbaijan” and the book “Children and Law”, APA reports.
He said that 1.6 billion children worldwide were exposed to physical and psychological pressure at home last year.
“90 million children were subjected to sexual violence in 2025. These statistics show that the situation on a global scale is far from encouraging. However, compared to other countries, we can consider Azerbaijan’s situation in these areas successful,” he said.
The Prosecutor General noted that 478 persons under the age of 18 were held criminally liable in 2025.
“At the same time, 784 persons under the age of 18 were registered as victims. Compared to other countries, this figure is not alarming, but in any case it concerns us. One of the main problems is the low level of legal awareness among children and the weakness of awareness-raising efforts in this process,” he added.
