Pre-trial detention extended for Russian citizens detained in Baku

A decision has been made to extend the pre-trial detention of members of a group of Russian citizens detained in Baku, APA reports.

The motions were reviewed at the Khatai District Court.

Lawyer Javad Javadli told APA that during today’s hearings, the pre-trial detention for each member of the group was extended by three months. Javadli added that he will file an appeal regarding the decision for the Russian citizen he is defending.

The individuals were detained as a result of an operation carried out by the Ministry of Internal Affairs concerning the transit and circulation of narcotics from Iran, as well as cyber fraud.

A preventive measure of four months’ pretrial detention was imposed on them by the Sabail District Court on July 1 of last year. On October 28, the detention period was extended by three months following a ruling by the Khatai District Court.
