Court rejects appeal filed by persons suspected of planning terrorist attacks in Azerbaijan on the eve of Eurovision-2012

Baku. Shahriyar Alizadeh – APA. Baku Court of Appeals finished hearing of the appeal filed by the gang members, who were suspected of planning terrorist attacks in Baku and regions on the eve of Eurovision song contest 2012 and having links with Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (SEPAH). APA reports that the decision was declared at the process. The appeal was not sustained.

The Ministry of National Security conducted special operations in Baku, Sumgayit, Ganja, Gakh, Zagatala, Guba and rendered harmless 40 people on the eve of Eurovision 2012 song contest. Criminal cases of the gang members are investigated separately on the merits.

According to the judgment passed by the Court of Grave Crimes, Kamal Yagubov was sentenced to 14 years, Rashad Shahbazov to 13 years and 6 months, Rajab Abbasov and Afig Allahverdiyev to 13 years in jail.

The embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Azerbaijan refuted the reports on those persons’ links with SEPAH.
