Azerbaijani Interior Ministry holds board meeting on outcomes of last year

Making a keynote speech at the meeting, Interior Minister, Colonel-General Ramil Usubov said Azerbaijan maintained the leading position in CIS and Eastern Europe in terms of struggling against crimes in 2012, the number of crimes per 100,000 people fell from 266 to 236. Minister said 200 organized gangs consisting of 564 people, who committed 649 grave crimes, including 15 premeditated murders, 61 robberies and 56 pillages, were rendered harmless. 713 firearms and 35 000 cartridges were seized, 100 were brought to justice for illegally keeping firearms. As a result of it, compared to 2011the number of the crimes committed with firearms reduced by 22% to 57.


It was noted that expedient measures were also taken to struggle against drug trafficking and human trafficking. 2453 drug-related crimes, including 713 drug sale facts were revealed, 51 criminal gangs consisting of 126 people were rendered harmless. 596k drugs and 50k precursors were withdrawn from illicit turnover, the smuggling of 54.9k drugs was prevented.


Chief of Azerbaijani Presidential Administration’s department for law-enforcement bodies Fuad Alasgarov also addressed the board meeting.
