Head of Investigation Department: We have sent request to Russian agencies regarding events in Yekaterinburg

"No international request or information has been sent to our investigative body from the authorized bodies of Russia regarding the killing of Azerbaijanis in Yekaterinburg up to the present date," said Nemat Avazov, head of the Investigation Department of the Prosecutor General’s Office, at a briefing held today, APA reports.

"But if there is a death fact, and this fact was recorded in the building of the state body carrying out operational-search activities or in its vehicle, this is definitely an incident that must be investigated. Relevant examinations have been conducted in Russia regarding the bodies, which also indicates that our colleagues in Russia have already started the investigation. If any person is subjected to torture and killed as a result of the application of such violence by an authorized person of the operational agencies, this is a particularly serious crime. We have sent the initial evidence and proof regarding this in accordance with the requirements of the 2002 Convention to the relevant bodies of Russia. In that request, we have asked the authorized bodies of Russia to carry out the relevant investigative actions, submit materials, conduct the necessary examinations, collect documents, and conduct inspections. Russia has also acceded to that Convention. We hope that in accordance with the requirements of the Convention, our Russian colleagues will soon begin faster investigative and inquiry actions. We will continue our efforts by establishing mutual contacts to ensure an objective investigation of the committed crime and the identification and prosecution of all guilty parties. We hope that all guilty persons will be brought to criminal responsibility."
