The Minister of Justice of the Czech Republic, Pavel Blazek, has signed an order on the extradition of Polad Omarov, a Georgian citizen of Azerbaijani origin, a criminal authority, to the United States, wrote Pravo newspaper on Tuesday, APA reports.
Omarov’s extradition process is scheduled to happen in a few days. He was detained in Czechia in January and was in prison since then on international order. Shortly after his arrest, it became known that the US prosecutor's office charged three criminal authorities from Eastern Europe with ties to the Iranian government with planning the murder of Masih Alinejad, an Iranian journalist and human rights defender living in the US.
Prague city court ruled at the end of May that Omarov could be extradited to the US, as well as Georgia and Kazakhstan which accused him of committing a crime. The Czech media recently wrote that Polad Omarov leads an organized criminal group that oppresses the Azerbaijani communities in Russia and Ukraine.
