A person wanted internationally has been detained in the United Arab Emirates and extradited to Azerbaijan, the Ministry of Justice told APA.
It was noted that the Ministry of Justice continues effective cooperation measures with the relevant authorities of foreign states regarding the detention and extradition to Azerbaijan of individuals placed on international wanted lists and accused of committing crimes.
Another individual, who had been placed on an international wanted list 13 years ago by the National Central Bureau of Interpol in Azerbaijan and whose location has now been determined, was extradited to Azerbaijan by the Ministry on April 10.
Thus, Azerbaijani citizen Ali-zade Khayal Mazahir, who in 2013 conspired in advance with a group and ordered the murder of foreign citizen V. Schilder by promising a large sum of money, and was accused of intentionally depriving him of life through multiple stab wounds inflicted by the perpetrator Elman Isgandarov (Articles 120.2.1 and 120.2.5 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Azerbaijan), was located in the United Arab Emirates and arrested.
Taking into account the likelihood that the individual was in the UAE, the required documents were sent to that country in 2023 in accordance with international procedures. Following ongoing negotiations and after the individual’s arrest, an agreement was reached on his extradition to Azerbaijan. This once again confirms Azerbaijan’s international standing and the United Arab Emirates as a reliable partner for the country.
Ali-zade Khayal Mazahir was brought to Azerbaijan by responsible officers of the International Cooperation Department of the Ministry of Justice and the Penitentiary Service of the Ministry and, based on a court decision, was placed in a pre-trial detention facility.
The Ministry noted that necessary measures in this area will continue.
