Azerbaijan arrests 17 over state border breaches in January 2026

In January 2026, 17 people were detained for violating the state border, APA reports, citing the press center of the State Border Service.

According to the information, six of those detained were Algerian citizens, four were Azerbaijani, four were Iraqi, and three were Pakistani.

As a result of measures to combat illegal migration, three individuals were detained while attempting to cross the state border using a forged date stamp and passport, as well as documents belonging to another person. Additionally, 117 people were detained for violating border regime rules and appropriate measures were taken against them.

As part of crime prevention efforts, 302 individuals wanted by law enforcement agencies were detained and handed over to the relevant authorities. In addition, 599 people who were banned from leaving the country were prevented from doing so, while eight individuals prohibited from entering were denied entry into the country.
