Appeal rejected over extended detention of Russian citizen Alexey Vasilchenko in Baku

An appeal has been reviewed against the decision to extend the pretrial detention measure imposed on one of the members of a group of Russian citizens detained in Baku, Alexey Vasilchenko, his lawyer, Javad Javadli, told APA

The lawyer said that a hearing was held at the Baku Court of Appeal, chaired by Judge Habil Mammadov, and a decision was issued. According to the decision, the appeal was not upheld.

Note that a group of Russian citizens was detained during an operation carried out by the Ministry of Internal Affairs related to the transit and trafficking of narcotic drugs from Iran, as well as cyber fraud. On July 1 last year, the Sabail District Court ordered a four-month pretrial detention measure for them. On October 28, the Khatai District Court extended their detention by three months. On January 27 this year, the Khatai District Court extended the detention period by another three months.
