Nine people were detained as a result of an operation conducted by the Federal Security Service (FSB) in the Russian city of Yekaterinburg at various addresses of the Azerbaijani Safarov family, according to information obtained by APA's Russian bureau.
All of those detained are brothers and cousins.
According to the information, two people are currently being held in hospital due to their serious condition, while the other nine are in police custody. All of those detained are Azerbaijanis who are citizens of Russia.
One of the two brothers killed during the operation, Huseyn Safarov, is an Azerbaijani, and Ziyeddin Safarov is a Russian citizen. It is reported that the bodies of the Safarov brothers will be handed over to their families tomorrow.
Originally from the Aghdam region, the Safarov brothers were engaged in the restaurant business. They owned the “Kaspi” restaurant in Yekaterinburg.
According to unconfirmed information, the reason for the operation against the Safarov family was the murder of a person named Yunis from the Aghdam region in 2001.

Law enforcement agencies conducted an operation against Azerbaijanis in the Russian city of Yekaterinburg, killing two people, according to information obtained by APA's Russian bureau.

Thus, at around 5 am today, FSB officers conducted an operation at various addresses in Yekaterinburg where the Safarov family, Russian citizens originally from the Aghdam region of Azerbaijan, lived.
During the raid on the apartments by FSB officers, brothers Ziyeddin and Huseyn Safarov were killed, and 8 people, including Bakir Safarov, received various degrees of bodily injuries as a result of the beating.
The condition of Akif, Ayaz, Kamal, and Mazahir Safarovs among those hospitalized is assessed as serious.
According to information provided by our compatriots living in Yekaterinburg, the operation was conducted in connection with a murder committed in the Safarovs' cafe in 2001.

OMON squad raided the house of Ziyeddin and Huseyn Safarovs in the Russian city of Yekaterinburg today, Safarovs' brother Seyfeddin Huseynli told APA.
"They tortured both of my brothers to death," Seyfeddin Huseynli said.
