Washington –APA. The US Senate Intelligence Committee voted to approve retired Adm. Dennis Blair as the new US national intelligence director. Blair will replace Michael McConnell who resigned from the post on Tuesday after nearly two years in the job, APA reports. He will be President Barack Obama’s top intelligence adviser, overseeing a budget of nearly $50 billion across 16 intelligence agencies. Blair had a 34-year work experience in Navy. His last job in the military was Commander-in-Chief of United States Pacific Command, the highest-ranking officer over all U.S. forces in the Asia-Pacific region. Previously, he was Director of the Joint Staff in the Office of the Chairman of Joint Chiefs of Staff, and served in budget and policy positions on several major Navy staffs and the National Security Council staff. He was also the first Associate Director of Central Intelligence for Military Support.
