Some editors-in-chief on hunger strike

Before starting the strike the editors held a press conference. Editor-in-chief of the Azadliq newspaper Ganimat Zahid said that editor-in-chief of Yeni Musavat Rauf Arifoglu, editor-in-chief of Yeni Zaman Shakir Habiloglu, editor-in-chief of 24 Saat Fikret Feremezoglu, director-general of Turan Information Agency Mehman Aliyev and editor-in-chief of the journal Ganun Shahbaz Khuduoglu will join the strike. Ganimat Zahid said that his strike is continuous. Mehman Aliyev said that the problem is not in the expelling of the newspaper from its office; it is political and is against the persecution of the freedom of press. Rauf Arifoglu said that the press is in bad conditions.
â€œI want to make an appeal to the international organizations protecting media rights no to let the Azerbaijani government â€œdestroyâ€? us,â€? he said. He called the Press Council leadership to join the hunger strike. After the press conference the editors began the hunger strike. Representatives of the Azadliq block conducting the hunger strike on the same demand stopped it. /APA/
