Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Emergency Situations publicizes causes of deaths of children in fire accidents

Ramil Mammadli – APA. 46 people were killed in fire accidents in Azerbaijan in 2010. 12 of them are children. 34 were killed in fire accidents this year. 12 children have been killed in fire accidents in 2011. 3 of them were killed in the fire in the aftermath of the road accidents. The rest 9 were killed in houses and indoor areas or died from smoke inhalation.

APA reports that Deputy Minister of Emergency Situations Etibar Mirzayev said at the briefing held with regard to the fire accidents in the country and deaths of children in fire accidents. He said the Ministry of Emergency Situations is concerned over the death of children in fire accidents.
“The investigations found out that death of children in fire accidents is recorded more in the regions. This happens because parents leave children at home alone, use electric ovens, put haystack in garrets. We have started raising awareness in the regions,” he said.

Deputy Minister said two children were killed in the fire in Yalman village of Goychay region.
“Information about the fire was given at 15.20 yesterday, the team was sent at 15.24. The firefighters arrived at the site at 15.36. The inflammable parties of the house had been burned down by the time the firefighters reached the site. The bodies of a boy and girl were found in the house. Fire broke out in the one-story five-room house owned by Alisa Ibrahimova in Mashtaga settlement of Sabunchu yesterday. Seven members of the family were poisoned from smoke inhalation. The employees of the Ministry of Emergency Situations evacuated the members of the family. Fortunately, no one died,” he said.
