Baku. Victoria Dementieva – APA. On October 11, the European Committee on Human Rights passed the next decision on Azerbaijan. APA reports quoting ECHR’s website that Azerbaijani citizen Mammad Ali Mammadov, who was born in1983 and is currently serving a life sentence in Gobustan Prison, made a complaint to ECHR relying on Article 6 § 1(right to a fair trial) of the European Convention on Human Rights, he alleged in particular that the criminal proceedings brought against him had been unfair as an appeal hearing on his case had been heard in his absence. The court passed a decision on payment of compensation in amount of 4800 Euros to Mammadov.

Trained by Chechen militants to participate in insurgent operations against the Russian forces, the Azerbaijani authorities found him guilty in April 2004 of premeditated aggravated murder, firearms smuggling and creating an illegal armed group.
