Azerbaijani Prosecutor Generalâ€™s Office issues statement on corruption cases

Criminal case was launched on the fact, Vahid Gulmaliyev was sentenced to pre-trial restriction.

On October 4, 2011, internally displaced person from Lachin region Ahad Suleymanov, who was settled in Veliushagli village of Berde region, called 161-hotline of the Department to Combat Corruption and said advisor of Lachin region education department Agil Jabbarov demanded bribe of AZN 1 500 from his wife Zahra Ahmadova in order to appoint her secondary school teacher. Suleymanov said he agreed to give him AZN 1000. Agil Jabbarov was caught red-handed by the officers of the Department to Combat Corruption while taking AZN 1000 in his office in Lachin region education department on October 6, 2011.

Agil Jabbarov was sentenced to pre-trial restriction under charges of 311.1.1 (taking bribe) of the Criminal Code. Initial investigation into the above-mentioned cases is being continued.

Investigation was launched basing on the appeal of Eldaniz Aliyev, who was detained as a suspect. According to the appeal, he was not given back the money that he had given for release during the initial investigation. The investigation found out that Eldaniz Aliyev was detained over the premeditated murder of Ilgar Mammadov. With the mediation of assistant prosecutor of Dashkesen Javanshir Nasibov and resident of the region Elnur Amrahov former inspector of Ganja prosecutorâ€™s office Igbal Tagiyev agreed with Eldaniz Aliyevâ€™s father Bayram Aliyev to release his son for $23 000. After having taken the money Igbal Tagiyev released Eldaniz Aliyev. But Ilgar Mammadovâ€™s relatives objected to the release of Eldaniz Aliyev. After that, Igbal Tagiyev returned $23 000 to Bayram Aliyev. Eldaniz Aliyev was brought to justice under article 120.2.1 and 120.2.4 and sentenced to pre-trial restriction. Under the order signed by Prosecutor General on September 23, 2011, Igbal Tagiyev and assistant prosecutor of Dashkesen Javanshir Nasibov were dismissed, criminal case was launched on articles 178.3.2 and 308.1 of the Criminal Code.
