Lech Kaczynski - National Hero of Georgia

President`s spokesperson Manana Manjgaladze voiced the decision at the briefing held on Saturday. April 11 has been declared a Day of Mourning in Georgia regarding the tragic death of the Polish president, his wife and other senior officials of government. Mikheil Saakashvili offers his condolences to all Poland and families of each passenger killed in the air crash occurred in Russia today.

`Georgia has lost its biggest friend in the international society. Poland and Europe have lost a great politician. Georgian President has lost a personal friend, who was always taking care of Georgia, loved Georgia with all his heart and was a big supporter and adviser to the country`, Manana Manjgaladze said.

The spokesperson said, the Georgian people will never forget Lech Kaczynski and his merits for that heroism he showed to protect Georgia`s interests not only in Georgia, but the whole world; for that devotion he showed during the August war in 2008.

`Georgia rarely had such s big friend during its whole history. Due to these merits, the Georgian president has issues a decree on awarding Polish President Lech Kaczynski posthumously a title of National Hero of Georgia and declare April 11 a mourning day in the country`, the president`s spokesperson said.

Manana Manjgaladze also said, the Georgian president, who is paying official visit to the US, intends to suspend his visit and set off to Poland for Kaczynski`s funeral.
