Azerbaijani Prosecutor Generalâ€™s Office holds board meeting

Baku â€“ APA. Azerbaijani Prosecutor Generalâ€™s Office held a board meeting on the state of the work done in 2009 and forthcoming tasks. Press service of Prosecutor Generalâ€™s Office told APA that Prosecutor General Zakir Garalov made a report at the meeting. It was underlined that the Prosecutor Generalâ€™s Office cooperating with the other law-enforcement, judicial bodies strengthened struggle against crimes, took necessary measures to maintain socio-political stability, protect rights and freedoms of the citizens, continued progressive reforms ensuring the improvement of the prosecuting authorities.

It was noted that the decree â€œStrengthening struggle against corruption in the management of state and municipal propertyâ€ issued by Azerbaijani President on June 22, 2009 opened a new stage in the struggle against corruption and laid responsibility on the prosecutorâ€™s office. The Department to Combat Corruption under Prosecutor General carried out a number of effective activities in the reporting period.

It was noted that necessary measures were taken to ensure the fair execution of the decision â€œDeclaration of the amnesty on the occasion of Novruz holidayâ€ adopted by the parliament on the initiative of President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, parliamentarian Mehriban Aliyeva.

In his report Prosecutor General said that the number of the crimes related to premeditated murder, bodily harm, kidnapping, carjacking, theft, robbery, blackmail, violation of traffic rules, fatal road accidents, crimes committed by juveniles reduced, 87.7 percent of 22,830 crimes were solved, 376 old crimes, including 113 grave crimes, 8 unsolved premeditated murders were solved, 436 organized crime gangs were rendered harmless.

Along with the positive activities, the Prosecutor General criticized the negative cases and gave concrete instructions to eliminate the shortcomings in a short time.
