He said 1744 of the earthquake shocks were local, 1936 near, far quakes, 20 of them were felt.

Though the number of the quakes increased compared with 2008, seismic energy reduced. 10km-deep 130 quakes, 10-20km-deep 262 quakes, 20-30km-deep 130 quakes, 30-40km-deep 82 quakes, 40-51km-deep and 46-50km-deep 44 quakes were recorded in Azerbaijan in 2009.

South-eastern slope of the Great Caucasus, especially Shamakhy-Ismayilli regions were recorded as seismically active territories. Seismic activity increased in the part of the Kur surrounding Mingachevir reservoir compared with 2008, the epicenters of the quakes in Shamakhy, Jalilabad and Hajigabul squeezed.

Gurban Yetirmishli said seismic activity of the Caspian basin increased compared with 2008, as a result of it seismic activity increased in the northern Caspian.

The highest tension, deformation situation was observed in Shamakhy, Shaki, Ismayilli, Aydinbulag-Aghdash in 2009. The process of the distribution of rocks is slow, therefore these territories will be seismologically dangerous territories in 2010.
