Baku Police Office holds meeting on outcomes of 2009
Chief of Baku Police Office Major-General Rafig Abbasov made report on the measures taken for combating crime, providing security and public order and other fields of operational service, as well as further duties.
Criminal situation in the capital was under the control. 10.781 criminal cases were identified in the reporting period, 85.9 percent of which were not grave and not publicly dangerous crimes, but 14.1 percent were grave and especially grave crimes. The number of deliberate murders was reduced by 11.9 percent, robbery – 5.2%, fatal road accidents – 11.6%, extortion – for 4 times, kidnapping – 12.5% in 2008 due to well-organized preventive measures.
81 percent of identified criminal cases were solved. 79.7 percent of grave crimes, including 84.7 percent of deliberate murders, 100 % of assassination attempts, 86.7% of robberies, 93.4% of fatal road accidents were solved. 170 members of 44 criminal groups suspected in robbery and brigandage, as well as 17 groups of thieves were rendered harmless last year.
Chief of Baku Main Police Office said a 15-member transnational crime gang and 87 groups had been rendered harmless, 195kg (151kg in 2008) narcotics were seized from the criminals.
Chiefs of a number of service and district police offices of Baku Main Police Office reported about the work done, promised to eliminate the shortcomings.
Summing up the meeting Ramil Usubov gave instructions to the participants, showed ways of eliminating the shortcomings and noted that necessary measures should be taken to increase the proficiency of the policemen, management skills of the chiefs, strengthen the discipline, master the modern forms and methods of the struggle against crimes. He said the international practice, modern information technologies should be used to increase the quality of the work, proficiency and knowledge.
Ramil Usubov underlined that the interior bodies, including the police of the capital will continue struggle against crimes, fulfill all the instructions given by the head of state to ensure stability, peace, public order, will be on alert to protect Azerbaijan’s statehood and independence.
