Turkish FM: We are acting within cooperation with Azerbaijan

Baku – APA. Turkish Foreign Ministry Spokesman Levent Gumrukcu said Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu didn’t say at Turkey's Grand National Assembly that they are making preparations to open the border with Armenia and trying to achieve consent of Azerbaijan. Turkish Embassy in Azerbaijan told APA that Gumrukcu refused the reports in this regard: “Turkey wants a comprehensive development of peace in the Caucasus. Our country has repeatedly said that it will highly estimate every step towards the development of regional cooperation in parallel with steps to end the occupation in Azerbaijan. We are acting within cooperation with Azerbaijan in this regard. We are discussing each issue in details at every level. It should be seen as a joint work, not as an attempt made by one side to satisfy the other side. The media reports that we are trying to satisfy Azerbaijan are not true. Turkey will positively assess every step towards improvement of cooperation in parallel with every step to be taken in the region.”

Touching on the recent visit of the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs to the region, Gumrukcu said Turkey, as a member of the Minsk Group, is closely following the process, it is still early to say what steps will be taken in the process of settlement after the meetings. Noting that there are expectations and activities to revive the process, Gumrukcu said Turkey wants the problem to be solved soon and is ready to take any step supporting peace in the region.
