Moscow. Farid Akberov – APA. “The fact that Azerbaijan voted for the resolution on Ukraine in the UN General Assembly can not affect the relations between Russia and Azerbaijan,” director general of the Political Information Center of Russia, political analyst Alexey Mukhin told APA’s Moscow correspondent.

According to him, Azerbaijan has objective reasons in taking this step and Moscow is aware of them: “It is clear that the Nagorno-Karabakh factor played a crucial role in this step. Of course, a policy plays a crucial role in this step. Azerbaijan is a sovereign country. During the adoption of the resolution on Ukraine in the UN General Assembly, Azerbaijan took a step in accordance with its national interests. Naturally, the fact that Azerbaijan voted against Russia surprised us. But this step can not have impact on the ties between the two countries. The current relations of the two countries will not allow it.”

As for Russia-Ukraine relations after the recent developments in Crimea Mukhin said: “Moscow will not establish any connection with the current government Kiev, because Russia does not recognize the legitimacy of the current Ukrainian government. Kiev government does not exist for Moscow as a political entity. We will not recognize the results of the elections to be held on May 25. In that case, how can we speak of Moscow-Kiev relations in the short run?”
