Russian political analyst: â€œAzerbaijan and Turkey are appropriate for the Eurasian Union membershipâ€

Baku. Victoria Dementieva – APA. “Russia has always regarded the Eastern Partnership Program as a semi-colonial union and EU's attempt to maintain a control over its eastern neighbors and to implement the doctrine of “limited sovereignty,” Russian political analyst Sergei Markov told APA.

According to him, signing with an association agreement with Eastern Partnership countries, the EU can influence the policies of these countries, while these countries can not have an impact on the EU policy: “The partnership should have equal basis, should not be semi-colonial.”

Markov noted that Russia wants to create the Eurasian Union not as an alternative to the Eastern Partnership program, but as a new form of cooperation: “We have no chance to become a member of the EU. We only have one choice, either to become a semi-colony of the EU and nurture it with our resources or create our own union.”

The Russian political analyst noted that Azerbaijan and Turkey are appropriate for the Eurasian Union membership: “We see Turkey as a member of this union in the future. According to the sociological surveys, over the last few years, the support for Turkey's admission to the EU has dropped from 75% to 30%, because they know they will never be allowed joining the EU. Azerbaijan, Turkey and Ukraine have only one choice – if you want to develop high-tech production, you'll have to join some market. These countries will have to choose a beneficial market.”
