PACE President meets with members of political parties represented in Azerbaijani Parliament

Deputy executive secretary of the New Azerbaijan Party, MP Siyavush Novruzov said that the European Parliament has adopted the next groundless and biased resolution regarding Azerbaijan on recent days.

“The resolution has been referred to PACE in several aspects. Though the human rights situation is deplorable in Armenia which is pursuing a policy of aggression, no measures are being taken against it”, he stressed.

Touching upon PACE President’s intend to meet with some prisoners charged with cooperation with Armenian special service agencies, Novruzov considers it appropriate to meet with the families of the people killed on the line of contact and relatives of the Khojaly genocide victims. He noted that some persons and NGOs have operated in secret and avoided taxes. “Those persons bear responsibility before the national laws. We are ready for comprehensive cooperation with European institutions and this cooperation should be carried out on the basis of mutual respect and non-interference in internal affairs of each other”, Novruzov said.

During the meeting party representatives said some European authorities’ unjust positions on Azerbaijan trigger reasonable irritation in society, because these organizations approach the Armenia-Azerbaijan conflict of Nagorno-Karabakh, which is the main problem of our country, in double standards: “The countries that now impose sanctions on Russia for the Ukrainian crisis take no action against Armenia which has kept our territories under occupation for over 20 years. Therefore, any positions of these organizations are not accepted seriously in the Azerbaijani society”.

The PACE President learned about the activities of the political parties that are represented in the Azerbaijani Parliament, their working principles and positions over the situation on human rights in the country and answered questions.

The meeting was attended by Chairman of the Social Welfare Party Khanhuseyn Kazimli, Chairman of the Justice Party Ilyas Ismayilov, Chairman of the National Revival Party Faraj Guliyev, Chairman of the Ana Vatan (Motherland) Party Fazail Aghamali, Deputy Chairman of the Civil Solidarity Party Fazail Ibrahimli, Chairman of the Azerbaijan Democratic Reforms Party Asim Mollazade, and Chairman of the United Azerbaijan Popular Front Party Gudret Hasanguliyev.
