Novruz Mammadov: There are forces in various countries and organizations who are jealous of Azerbaijanâ€™s democratic development

Baku. Ramiz Mikayiloglu – APA. “As a legal state, Azerbaijan has conducted major reforms in several fields as well as in political field and will further conduct. Today all political rights, including freedoms of speech and expression have been fully ensured in Azerbaijan”, Deputy Head of the Azerbaijani Presidential Administration, Head of Foreign Relations Department Novruz Mammadov told journalists, while commenting on President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) Anne Brasseur’s visit to Azerbaijan, APA reports.

Mammadov said that the people are not restricted to express their positions in the media and electronic mass media coming together in political parties and NGOs. He said that Azerbaijan has strongly developed in this regard.

“Unfortunately, there are forces in various countries and organizations who are jealous of Azerbaijan’s democratic development. This is not right. This is the wrong way that the West and some European circles take and they will not benefit from this way. Through our talks with them, we try to achieve them being fair and demonstrating it in their activities not in words. We say that they cannot deceive anyone by making inviting statements. Our position is expressed at meetings”, he said.

Mammadov said Azerbaijan is absolutely right.

“The Nagorno-Karabakh conflict was one of the first conflicts after the fall of the USSR and the disbandment of the Warsaw Pact. If the West took a just position from the very beginning and achieved the resolution of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, then other relatively minor conflict would also have been settled, and we would not find ourselves in a situation like this. But the West demonstrated a subjective position and supported Armenia, and didn’t approach other conflicts in a different manner. Consequently, there are intense tension and escalation today. In such a case, we see leaders of European states or organizations aren’t so sure of what they’re doing, falling into a deadlock. They are now being punished for erroneous steps they have taken so far and maybe will continue to be punished. Because the principle of justice is above anything else. We’re not obliged to report to anyone in this regard. In Azerbaijan, everything is all right. No one is rebutted for their political views. However, if you, as a politician, commit a criminal act or do anything violating the legislation, then you have to appear before the court. This is quite normal. Such cases also occur in the states which think they’re completely democratic and are trying to teach others. Whoever violates the law is arrested. What we demand is that you should be just and show everyone that you treat everyone equally”, he said.
