Khalaf Khalafov publicizes uncoordinated issues on Caspian Sea legal status

Deputy Foreign Minister Khalaf Khalafov told journalists that the draft of the final documents of the Astrakhan summit was discussed at the meeting.

These documents will be discussed at the upcoming meeting of the foreign ministers of the Caspian littoral states in Moscow on April 22.

The meeting will review the issues to be discussed at Moscow summit of the leaders of the Caspian littoral states.

It has been decided to hold several meetings of the Working Group before the summit. One of these meetings will take place in Moscow before the Moscow summit.

“Work and intensive talks are underway on some uncoordinated issues. The summit will be held in the first half of this year. The date of the summit is being determined through the diplomatic channels.”


Asked what the uncoordinated issues are, Khalaf Khalafov said: “There is still no agreement on the determination of sovereignty zone, border lines, fishing area, scientific-research zone of the water surface, environmental, security issues, elimination of the consequences of the emergency cases, protection and use of biological resources. These issues can be agreed at the Working Group.”

Deputy Minister said the talks are underway in five-party, bilateral and trilateral format.
