The Foreign Ministry’s press service told APA that this was Azerbaijan's second Presidency of the UN Security Council as a non-permanent member. During this period, important issues on ensuring international peace and security were included in the agenda of the UN Security Council.
During the second presidency, on the initiative of Azerbaijan, a high-level meeting on “Strengthening the partnership synergy between the United Nations and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation” was held on October 29for the first time.
The UN Security Council’s visit to Africa was organized as another important event during the presidency of Azerbaijan.
Four resolutions were adopted during Azerbaijan’s presidency of the Security Council. They are resolution #2119 on extension of the mandate of the United Nations Stabilization Mission in Haiti, resolution #2120 on extension of the mandate of the International Security Assistance Force in Afghanistan, resolution #2121 on the situation in the Central African Republic and resolution #2122 adopted at the end of the Council’s open debate on "Women and peace and security" on October 18.
China took over the UN Security Council presidency from Azerbaijan in November.
