Baku. Shamil Alibeyli-APA. Today, Azerbaijani and Iranian border guards met at Poldesht border checkpoint, Iranian Embassy in Baku told APA. The representatives of border guards of two countries discussed the issues on closure of borders between two states.

As a conclusion of the meeting, the sides agreed to continue such meetings in future. It is expected the border checkpoints of two countries to open in near days.

Iranian Embassy in Azerbaijan has issued a statement on the closure of Bilasuvar and Julfa border checkpoints.

The statement issued on the behalf of Mohammad Ayatollahi, the spokesman for the embassy, says that this step was taken due to the fact that the Azerbaijani frontier guards have closed Poldasht-Shahtakhti checkpoint and the attempts made to open it have not produced results.

The statement also says the Republic of Azerbaijan closed Poldasht-Shahtakhti checkpoint on November 6 due to the fact that an unknown person shot at a tractor near the checkpoint: “Consequently, Iranian drivers and citizens faced serious problems.”

Seyed Mohammad Ayatollahi said as the checkpoint was not opened, Iran closed Bilasuvar and Julfa checkpoints after waiting for two days and informing the Azerbaijani side beforehand.
