Baku – APA. President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev has received the delegation led by Cardinal Gianfranco Ravasi, President of the Pontifical Council for Culture of the Vatican, APA reports.
The Head of State expressed his confidence that the visit of Cardinal Gianfranco Ravasi would be successful and contribute to developing the relations between Azerbaijan and the Vatican. Touching upon the demonstration of the exhibitions on Azerbaijan in the Vatican museums, the Head of State expressed his satisfaction with the recent development of cooperation in a new format. President Aliyev said that for his merits in the development of cultural relations between Azerbaijan and the Vatican, Gianfranco Ravasi was awarded with the order “Dostlug” (Friendship), one of the highest awards of Azerbaijan, and presented the order to the Cardinal.
In his turn, Cardinal Gianfranco Ravasi congratulated the Head of State on his reelection as president. He said that for his merits in the development of relations between Azerbaijan and the Vatican, President Ilham Aliyev was awarded with “Medalla Sede Vacante”, one of the highest medals of the Holy See, and presented it to the Head of State.
Cardinal Ravasi especially underlined the merits of Mehriban Aliyeva, First Lady of Azerbaijan and President of Heydar Aliyev Foundation, in the enhancement of the relations between the countries.
The guest expressed his confidence on further development of bilateral relations.
