Azerbaijani FM meets with Head of UN Development Programme

Baku – APA. Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov has met with Head of the UN Development Programme Helen Clark as part of the 69th session of the UN General Assembly, the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry’s press service told APA.

At the meeting, Clark said that Azerbaijan is one of the active and useful members of the UN Development Programme and stressed the importance of her visit to Azerbaijan for participation in the Global Youth Forum to be held in early October in Baku.

She expressed satisfaction over seeing Azerbaijan as a middle-income developing country, its development and active role in the international arena.

Stressing that Azerbaijan made significant progress in the field of information and communication technologies, Clark said this field plays an important role in strengthening the strategic cooperation between the UN Development Programme and Azerbaijan.

Mr. Mammadyarov underlined the importance of Mrs. Clark’s visit to Azerbaijan in terms of strengthening bilateral cooperation between the UN Development Programme and the Azerbaijani government. The Minister emphasized that in order to provide assistance for developing countries to overcome humanitarian and socio-economic challenges our country has established AIDA (Azerbaijan International Development Agency) and gained the status of donor country. He mentioned that more than 30 countries of the Latin America, Africa and Asia have benefited by its humanitarian aid so far.

The sides also discussed other issues of mutual interest at the meeting.
