Baku. Rashad Suleymanov – APA. “The Order of the Republic Medal of Turkey” has been conferred by President Abdullah Gul on President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, who is on a visit to Ankara. APA reports quoting the Turkish media that Ilham Aliyev has handed “The Order of Heydar Aliyev” to Abdullah Gul.
Addressing the event, Gul expressed his happiness that Ilham Aliyev has been awarded with the highest medal of Turkey. He underlined that this medal will further honor relations between the two countries. Gul mentioned that “The Order of the Republic Medal of Turkey” was formerly conferred on Heydar Aliyev.
The Turkish President said they attach importance to friendly and fraternal relations with Azerbaijan: “This medal is important in terms of strengthening friendly ties between the states that are two parts of one nation. During my visits over the last 10 years, I observed the changes in Azerbaijan. I pay tribute to our fathers and martyrs. Long live Azerbaijan, long live Azerbaijan-Turkey brotherhood.”
In his speech, President Ilham Aliyev noted the importance of that day: “Today is a historic day for me. This medal is a glory for me.”
Stressing that Turkey is the closest friend, brother and ally for Azerbaijan, President Aliyev noted that the unity of both countries is vital for the entire region: “The stronger Turkey is, more confident Azerbaijan will be. We want our unity to be eternal and unbreakable.”
Azerbaijan’s President is accompanied by his spouse Mehriban Aliyeva, Deputy Prime Minister Abid Sharifov, Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov, Interior Minister Ramil Usubov, Minister of Industry and Economy Shahin Mustafayev, Minister of Energy Natig Aliyev, Minister of Communication and Information Technologies Ali Abbasov, Minister of Transportr Ziya Mammadov, Minister of Labor and Social Protection of Population Salim Muslumov and deputy head of the Presidential Administration Novruz Mammadov.
