APA reports that Azerbaijan handed over the presidency of the UN Security Council to China. Liu Jieyi, China’s permanent representative to the United Nations will present a work program for this month on November 4.
The UN Security Council has 15 members. China, France, Russia, the United Kingdom and the United States are permanent members.
10 non-permanent members are elected by the General Assembly for two-year terms.
Chief responsibility for the maintenance of peace and security lies with the Security Council. The UN Security Council's decisions are binding on all members.
