We must restore trust in order to respond to threats together, said Director-General of the World Health Organization (WHO) Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus at the opening ceremony of the 13th Global Baku Forum, APA reports.
“We hope that the discussions will conclude at this year’s World Health Assembly and that the Pandemic Agreement will be opened for signature and enter into force. This process is not easy, but nothing valuable is easy. Countries are not doing this out of kindness or idealism; they are doing it for their national interests. The meaning of multilateral cooperation is not to eliminate differences, but to manage common risks. However, the multilateral system is still under threat, especially against the backdrop of the United States withdrawing from the system of international cooperation it created. Last year, the WHO went through a phase of prioritization and restructuring. I am confident that the organization will emerge from this situation stronger, more focused, and more independent. We are a single species on the same planet with the same DNA and the same threats. Ultimately, our future is a shared future. The questions are not about the idealism of cooperation, but about the choice. We must restore trust in order to respond to threats together,” WHO Director-General said.
