"Belgium had completely deprived the Congolese of their rights and freedoms," said Dieudonné Kwebe-Kimpele, a journalist, lecturer, and independent researcher from Belgium, at the international conference titled “Belgian Colonialism: Acknowledgment and Responsibility” held in Baku, APA reports.
“Belgium needed minerals during the First World War. Therefore, minerals were extracted from the Congo, and the country was plundered. Congolese were forced to work 18 hours a day. Their resources were exported, their lands were taken, and they were deprived of their rights. This was carried out systematically,” the journalist noted.
