A panel discussion titled “Global Security and the Balance of Power: Respect for International Law, New Issues, New Challenges” was held today as part of the 13th Global Baku Forum, APA reports.
President of Timor-Leste Jose Ramos-Horta, speaking at the panel, said the current state of international law is concerning and noted the growing number of refugees worldwide.
Former Prime Minister of Belgium and former President of the European Council Charles Michel said international law is under threat and stressed the importance of the EU making more independent decisions.
Former Egyptian Foreign Minister Amr Moussa noted that changes in the global security system are necessary. Other speakers also stated that the role of the United Nations is weakening and that regional organizations may play a greater role in the future.
