The Commission on Foreign Interference and Hybrid Threats of Azerbaijan’s Milli Majlis has adopted a statement regarding the UAV attacks carried out from the territory of the Islamic Republic of Iran against the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic of the Republic of Azerbaijan, APA reports.
The statement says that on March 5, 2026, attacks were carried out against the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic using unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) equipped with explosive warheads launched from the territory of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
It was noted that one of the UAVs damaged the terminal building of Nakhchivan International Airport, while another fell near a secondary school building in the village of Shakarabad in Babek district. Four civilians were reported injured in the attacks.
“We assess the targeting of the Airport — the only international air gateway of the Autonomous Republic — and civilian infrastructure as a violation of the norms and principles of international law, an encroachment on our state’s territorial integrity and sovereignty, and an act of terror.
The commission also considers this treacherous act carried out by Iran, which combines military, political and information components, as a hybrid attack operation. At the same time, it has been observed that an information campaign supporting Iran’s actions is being conducted in Azerbaijan’s social media segment and manipulative opinions are being spread.
There is no doubt that these attacks were aimed at creating confusion and fear among our citizens, undermining trust in relevant state institutions, and damaging Azerbaijan’s regional position and international reputation.
The Azerbaijani side reserves the right to take appropriate response measures within the framework of international law.
The Commission on Foreign Interference and Hybrid Threats calls on our citizens and compatriots living abroad to trust the strength of our state and rely on official information.”
