A meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) was held in Moscow, APA’s Moscow bureau reports.
The ministers’ restricted-format meeting lasted more than two hours, after which the session continued with the participation of delegations.
During the meeting, an exchange of views took place on international and regional issues, and priority areas of work within the CIS framework were discussed in the context of the organization’s 35th anniversary this year.
At the end of the meeting, a number of decisions were adopted aimed at strengthening foreign policy coordination and expanding cooperation in law enforcement, cultural, and humanitarian spheres.
Most of the approved documents were submitted to the CIS Council of Heads of State and Government for final approval.
It was decided that the next meeting of the CIS Council of Foreign Ministers will be held on October 7 in Turkmenistan.
Following the meeting, CIS Secretary General Sergey Lebedev and Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov held a joint press conference.

Azerbaijan is represented at the meeting by Deputy Foreign Minister Samir Sharifov.
During the meeting, held at the Reception House of the Russian Foreign Ministry, an exchange of views will be held on international and regional issues on the agenda, and priority areas of work within the CIS format will be discussed in the context of the 35th anniversary of the Commonwealth marked this year.
Recall that Turkmenistan holds the CIS chairmanship starting from 2026.
Official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova stated that a number of decisions aimed at strengthening foreign policy coordination and expanding cooperation in law enforcement, cultural, and humanitarian fields are expected to be adopted following the meeting.
It is also expected that the ministers will consider granting the status of base organizations of CIS member states to two Russian educational institutions.
In addition, during the meeting, the results of the implementation of the Plan of Multilevel Inter-Ministerial Consultations within the CIS and the Program of Action on Expanded Partnership between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of CIS member states for 2025 will be summarized.
Most of the approved documents will later be submitted for approval to the Council of Heads of State and Government of the CIS.
It was also reported that a joint press conference will be held at the end of the meeting by CIS Secretary General Sergey Lebedev and Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.
