MP Canan Aritman: No government in Turkey has a right and authority to aggrieve our Azerbaijani brothers
“The people’s eyes were gouged out, they were skinned, abdomens of pregnant women were cut and babies were burnt. How can Armenians demand recognition of the so-called genocide after all this?â€
Citing Zori Balayan’s book “Revival of our spirit†Canan Aritman told the parliamentarians that atrocities were committed against Azerbaijani children in Karabakh. Ms. Aritman condemned the persons carrying out Armenian apology campaign in Turkey.
“Will these people demand Armenians to apologize for Khojaly? I do not believe it. They are doomed to live in disgrace and will drown in this disgrace,†she said.
Canan Aritman said as a result of Armenians’ aggressive policy 20 percent of Azerbaijani territories had been occupied and one million people displaced.
“The only guilt of the people in Khojaly was that they were Turks. Hundreds of thousands of Turks were killed both in Azerbaijan and Anatolia within the past century. There is no Turk in Armenia or the occupied territories. But there still are thousands of Armenians in Azerbaijan,†she said.
The oppositionist MP focused on the Armenian intention to recognize the so-called “genocideâ€, not to leave the territorial claim against Turkey and said the lobby efforts were continued in this direction. “They are relying on the Barack Obama’s promise and trying to achieve the recognition of the “genocide†in America this year. Unfortunately we lost the support of Jewish lobby after the Prime Minister’s action in Davos. The state figure shouldn’t be in such manner. As the honorable leader of our party Deniz Baykal affirms the state figure cannot visit Yerevan while Armenia is not withdrawn from the occupied lands, cannot open the borders and must achieve the returning of the occupied landsâ€.
Aritman ended her speech with quotes from Mustafa Kemal Ataturk. “Great Ataturk said “Azerbaijan’s happiness is our happiness and its grieve is our grieveâ€. Turkey’s policy toward Azerbaijan was always so and will remain so. No government in Turkey has a right and authority to aggrieve our Azerbaijani brothersâ€.
During her speech, Canan Aritman showed large photos describing horrors of Khojaly.
