10th East-West Baku International Film Festival to take place in June

Secretary of the Union and deputy general director of the festival Abbas Aliyev said films with successful screening fate would be shown within the festival as it was during the previous festivals. “We should acknowledge that there is lack of venues for the demonstrations. Capital repairs are going in the Heydar Aliyev Palace. Film screening is possible in the Green Theater only after 10.00 PM. The screening in the open air can be unsuccessful. Therefore the opening ceremony will be held at the State Musical Comedy Theater on June 1. The films will be shown in the “Azerbaijan” Cinema House and in the cinema hall of “Ibrus” theater.
On June 2, round table on the problems and prospects of national cinematograph and film distribution will take place in Absheron Hotel. “Russian Roulette” (Russia), “La Vie En Rose” (France), “The Actress” (Russia), “Trick” (Poland), “Exile” (Russia), “Cargo 200” (Gruz 200, Russia), “Ageless Children” (Iran), “Autumn Party” (Estonia), “Light Coolness” (Kyrgyzistan), “The Monotony” (Latvia) and “The Friend” (Azerbaijan) will be shown in “Azerbaijan” Cinema House within the framework of the festival. Azerbaijani movie “Fate of the King” and Russian “Alexander Nevsky Battle” will be screened on June 7 during the final ceremony of the festival in “Azerbaijan” Cinema House. Prizes for the best actress and best actor, as well as for the most humanist message to mankind and for contribution to the development of world cinematograph will be awarded on the same day. Retrospective of well-known Polish filmmaker Krzysztof Zanussi’s movies “Persona Non Grata”, “In Full Gallop” and “Camouflage” will be organized within the festival.
Abbas Aliyev said screenwriters Georgiy Branjev (France) and Efraim Abramov (Israel), directors Andzej Jakimovsky and Krzysztof Zanussi (Poland), producer Erica Laansalu (Estonia), actress Viyre Valdma (Estonia), director Poshkus Juris and actor Andis Strods (Latvia), film critic Anton Sidorenko (Belarus), director Ernest Abdijaparov and actress Asema Toktobekova (Kyrgyzystan) and other well-known cinematographers have been invited to the festival’s 10th anniversary ceremony.
