Azerbaijan has 55 diplomatic offices and embassies in foreign countries. 46 of them are embassies, 5 consulates and 4 are permanent representations, Deputy Foreign Minister Vagif Sadigov said at the meeting of the parliament’s commission on foreign affairs and interparliamentary relations on draft state budget for 2008. Sadigov said that these diplomatic offices have 558 employees.
“55 of them are heads of the offices, 240 are officers, 149 technical staff, 37 military attachés and 59 are representatives of different government agencies in the embassies. Azerbaijan will soon open embassies in seven counties and they will have 49 officers. So the number of employees in Azerbaijani diplomatic offices will be over 600,” he said.
The deputy minister said that 339 are working in Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry, 272 of them are diplomatic officers and 69 are technical staff.
“Besides, Foreign Ministry has a department in Nakhchivan,” he said.
Touching on financing of the diplomatic offices Sadigov said AZN 43.3mln. was allocated from the state budget.
“AZN 3.3mln. of it has been allocated for Foreign Ministry and AZN 40mln. on diplomatic offices. But these funds do not meet our needs. Therefore we ask Finance Ministry to increase the funds allocated from 2008 state budget for the Foreign Ministry,” he said. /APA/
