U.S. ambassador to Azerbaijan meets with NGO chiefs in Sumgayit

The ambassador met with the representatives of NGOs functioning in ecological sector in Sumgayit firstly. The ambassador replied to the questions of journalists after the meeting.
Ann Derse underlined that she will get acquainted with Sumgayit in the framework of her visit.
â€œProblems all Azerbaijani cities face is also felt in Sumgayit. Sumgayit residents also face ecological problems,â€ she said.
She said that she and leading specialists will exchange views on eliminating environmental damages, pollution of Caspian Sea.
â€œWe also carried out debates on eliminating ecological problems existing since Soviet period. I will discuss this issue with Sumgayit city leadership,â€ she said.
Director of Sumgayit Ecological Rehabilitation Center Arif Islamzada said that debates were interesting.
â€œRepresentatives of NGOs gave thorough information to ambassador about the ecological condition of Sumgayit. We also discussed other projects,â€ he said.
Ms. Derse is expected to meet with head of Sumgayit Executive Power Vagif Aliyev in the second half of the day. /APA/
