Azerbaijan diplomacy was established on July 9, 1919, Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry State Records Department chief Pervin Mirzazada told reporters, APA reports.
Commenting on marking July 9 as Diplomacy Day Mirzazada stated that the first official document found in the archives concerning Azerbaijan Democratic Republic’s Foreign Ministry is the temporary Statue of the ministry registered on this date.
“There are several proposals on marking Diplomacy day-date of agreement concluded with Ottoman Turkey, date when Versal conference started, recognition of Azerbaijan by Antanta states and so on,” he said.
Mr.Mirzazada said that diplomatic representations of 16 foreign countries, including the US, UK, France, Italy, Sweden, Switzerland, Belgium, Iran and Ukraine operated in Baku in 1919. Foreign Ministry’s office chief said that nearly 700 diplomats are working in this system. 400 of them are serving abroad, others in the Ministry.
Mr.Mirzazada saying that Azerbaijani diplomatic representations are operating in 53 countries added that Azerbaijani embassies will be opened in several South American and African countries. /APA/
